X500 Series

A powerful cut on all terrain.
The perfect solution for demanding customers: X500 Series lawn tractors.

All-terrain mowing.
With their low centre of gravity, long wheelbase and differential lock, there is almost no terrain where X500 Series smooth-running machines won't go. Also, there is lots of room for the grass clippings in the optional 250 or 500 litre grass collector. You'll be leaps ahead of other lawn tractors on the market

Recommended Mowing Area,Over 8000 m²
Cutting Width122cm (48in) or 137cm (54in)
Engine Power16.4 kW at 3350 rpm
Speed11.6 km/h (7.2 mph) Forward

The frame is made of heavy-duty formed and welded steel, reinforced in critical areas for even greater strength:

  • Frame is formed from 3mm (0.118-in) thick steel.
  • Front bumper and hitch plate are formed from 6.4mm (0.25-in.) steel and complete the frame assembly.
  • Rear hitch plate can support up to four 42-lb Quik-Tatch weights

Powerful engine

The tractor is powered by a John Deere iTorque™ power system, a combination of engine features and an exclusive bonnet design that provide superior work ability, even cooling, and durability.

The 16.4 kW (at 3350 rpm) liquid-cooled V-twin engine has a large 675-cc displacement to provide plenty of power and torque for excellent performance in any operating condition. Key engine features include:

  • Liquid cooling provides longer engine life, quieter running, and improved fuel efficiency.
  • V-twin two-cylinder design gives a smooth-running and easy-to-start engine.
  • Quality features include cast-iron cylinder liners, overhead valves, full-pressure lubrication, replaceable oil filter, and dual-stage air cleaner.
  • Solenoid-shift starter ensures easy starts, even in cold weather and provides excellent productivity, even in the most challenging conditions.

Comfortable Operation

The operator station is designed for operator comfort and convenience in operating all controls. The controls are colour coded for easy identification of the function.

The 53cm (21-in.) high-back seat provides additional comfort and support for the operator. The seat suspension is easily adjusted and there is 17.8cm (7 in.) of seat travel allowing the operator to tailor to their individual requirements. The seat tilts forward to keep the seating surface out of the weather.

A beverage holder and storage compartment is found on the right side fender for added value and operator convenience.

A 12-V outlet is standard equipment and provides a convenient plug-in for electrical equipment.
Five steering-wheel positions allow the operator to select the most comfortable setting.

Rubber foot pads make the operator more comfortable and help insulate operator's feet from vibration. With attractive styling and long-lasting wear surface, the foot pad reduces the chance of slippage, even when wet.

Robust Bonnet and headlights

Smooth, rounded contours present a modern, styled appearance:

  • Bonnet styling incorporates efficient full-length air-intake louvers on each side
  • Cooler engine operation
  • Lower operator station sound levels
  • Hot air is vented out the front grill, away from the operator
  • Xenoy® molded-in-color hood material is very durable
  • Excellent impact strength
  • Hides scratches
  • Will not rust or dent
  • Distinctive grille, large footrest area, and one-piece fender deck complete the styling package

Headlights are standard equipment.

  • High quality headlights make evening work easier and safer:
  • Two 35-W bulbs provide excellent lighting for improved visibility during evening operation
  • A dash-mounted switch makes operating the headlights easy and convenient
  • Headlights are designed to provide an optimum lighting pattern for mowing and snow removal

Twin Pedal Hydrostatic Operation

Twin Touch foot pedals control the speed and direction of travel:

  • Automotive-type accelerator control ensures easy operation.
  • Operator can change direction without lifting foot off the platform.
  • Large pedal surface gives superior operator comfort.

Cruise control

Cruise control is standard equipment:

  • To engage, lift up on the cruise lever and hold until the foot is removed from the forward pedal.
  • For emergency stop, the cruise control can be released by pushing on the brake pedal or the forward pedal.

RIO – Reverse Implement Option

Mowing while reversing is strongly discouraged.

An operator who deems it necessary and chooses to keep the mower engaged while backing up, must bring the vehicle to a stop, then lift and hold the power take-off (PTO) switch in the reverse implement position as the reverse pedal is depressed slightly. The operator can then release the PTO switch and the mower will continue to operate.

This procedure must be repeated the next time the operator chooses to keep the mower (or other PTO-operated equipment) engaged while backing up.

Edge Mowing System

Choose either a 122cm (48-in) or 137cm (54-in.) mower deck for the X540. Both are a three-spindle design with heavy-duty characteristics:
The 3.4-mm deck stamping is designed to handle a large volume of material. It also gives excellent cut quality and uniform discharge in all mowing conditions.

The Edge Xtra Cutting System incorporates resilient four-point mounting systems, wider gauge wheels, 0.6cm (1/4-in.) cut-height increments, and an onboard deck-leveling system:

The hydraulic lift control lever is positioned on the dash near the steering wheel for quick, easy, and precise fingertip control of the mower deck by the operator.

The mulching attachment for the 122cm (48-in) or 137cm (54-in.) Edge Xtra deck provides excellent performance:

  • Mulching attachment controls clippings at all three blades. Excellent mulching performance.
  • Even distribution of mulched clippings.
  • Plastic molded parts will not rust.
  • Mulching attachment is made up of two parts, each held in place with two bolts and wing nuts for easy installation.
  • Right half of the mulching attachment can be quickly removed for occasional side discharging and is easily reinstalled for mulching.
  • Special mulching blades are included.

Power Steering

Hydraulic power steering is standard equipment:

  • Provides effortless automotive-like control
  • Reduces operator fatigue and increases productivity
  • Offers a tight turning radius for great maneuverability
  • Adjustable-tilt steering wheel for optimum operator comfort.

Cast Iron Front Axle

Front axle is made of nodular cast iron:

  • Cast-iron front axle is strong and shock-resistant.
  • Cast iron will not yield under heavy loads or impact.
  • Replaceable bushings are used at pivot and spindles:
  • Bushings provide excellent wear resistance.
  • Grease cavity between the bushings maintains lubrication and easy steering between greasings.
  • Grease fittings at each spindle are easy to service.

Front steering spindle diameter is 1.8cm (3/4-in.) for strength and long life:

  • Strength to handle heavy implements
  • Long life at bearing surfaces
  • Sealed precision bearings in front wheels

Traction assist

Traction assist is standard equipment:

  • Traction assist supplies positive power to both drive wheels for increased traction.
  • Foot-operated traction assist control is convenient for the operator to use, when needed.

Fuel tank

The quality fuel system components enhance performance and convenience:

  • Large 18.9-L capacity
  • Wide, 7.6cm (3-in). diameter fuel tank filler opening located on the left fender which makes adding fuel easy and helps eliminate spillage
  • Sealed and tethered fuel cap for reduced fuel vapor loss and less chance of losing fuel cap

Convenient dash-mounted fuel gauge

  • Automotive-style fuel gauge on the dash which is easy to read from tractor seat and reduces likelihood of running out of fuel
